Bhubaneswar: The 2026 student union elections at Rama Devi Women’s University and Utkal University concluded amid tension, allegations of counting irregularities and police intervention, with the BCJD winning key posts at Rama Devi and the ABVP securing major positions at Utkal University.
At Rama Devi Women’s University, the results were declared around 3 am on Friday after disputes over ballot counting delayed the process for several hours.
A heavy police presence was maintained on campus following clashes between student groups and allegations of irregularities.
Candidates from the BCJD panel secured all four key posts. Sonali Behera was elected president, Arpita Mahapatra vice-president, Lakshmipriya Biswal general secretary and Sudeshna Khuntia joint secretary.
Tensions had escalated during counting, with rival groups alleging irregularities inside the counting centre.
The university administration and police intervened before the process resumed and the results were announced.

Following the results, ABVP supporters celebrated outside the Utkal University campus.
