New Delhi: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has called for an end to the current state of “neither war nor peace” in the region, as tensions with the United States remain high and diplomatic efforts to revive negotiations continue.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, October 28, that his government would work to implement the Supreme Leader’s directive.

He also urged ministers and senior officials to remain prepared for emerging threats, strengthen national resilience and make effective use of available resources.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi briefed the Cabinet on diplomatic developments and regional consultations, including engagements involving representatives from Qatar and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance has reportedly sent a letter to Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, at the direction of US President Donald Trump.

According to reports, the communication aims to determine whether Washington and Tehran can establish a framework for renewed negotiations.

The diplomatic outreach comes amid concerns that the United States could resume strikes after its November 3 midterm elections. However, no final agreement to restart negotiations or prevent further military action has been announced.

Both sides continue to face major differences over sanctions, Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security.
