Copenhagen: Denmark’s PM Mette Frederiksen has appealed to US President Donald Trump to stop threatening to acquire Greenland. She also said that it makes absolutely no sense to talk about the US needing to take over the Greenland.
She had reportedly urged Trump to stop the threats against a “historically close ally and against another country and another people, who have very clearly said that they are not for sale.” a self-governing territory of Denmark.
The prime minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, also expressed his disappointment on Sunday saying “When the President of the United States says that ‘we need Greenland’ and links us to Venezuela and military intervention, it’s not just wrong. It’s disrespectful.”

It is to be noted here that the USA president in an interview said that “We need Greenland from a national security standpoint. It’s very strategic right now. Greenland is covered with Russian and Chinese ships all over the place.”
It triggered tensions as both the Denmark PM and Greenland PM strongly opposed Trump’s advances.
