Rayagada: The plight of migrant workers has once again come to the fore in the Kashipur block of Rayagada district of Odisha, with the deaths of two migrant workers reported on the same day.

Jayaram Majhi, a resident of Adjal village under Kodipari Panchayat, lost his life in an accident involving a trolley engine while working on a railway line project in Secunderabad.

Meanwhile, the family members appealed the local and district administration to help them bring Majhi’s body to the village and conduct his last rites.

Likewise, Ranjit Nayak from Nuagaon, under Maikanch Panchayat, fell ill while working in Kerala and subsequently passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

It is reported that Nayak’s mortal remains are being transported back to his village by ambulance, following the payment of one lakh rupees toward medical expenses.

There is strong discontent in the local area as young men from Kashipur—a region rich in mines and mineral deposits—are losing their lives after migrating to other states in search of employment.
