Engineering student’s death in Berhampur: Boyfriend Biswajit Jena arrested

Berhampur: Golanthara Police reportedly arrested one Biswajit Jena alias Papu of Pandarasahi village and forwarded him to the court in connection with the suicidal death of his girlfriend, an engineering student of a private college.

As informed by police, a 20-year-old girl student of Gandhi Engineering College, Golanthara was found in a hanging state by her own sister and hostel roommates in the hostel. She was taken to the MKCG hospital and the treating doctor declared her brought dead.

Based on the report of the uncle of the girl, Golanthara PS case no. 226/2026 u/s 108 BNS – abetment to suicide was registered against Biswajit Jena, boyfriend of the deceased on June 20 and investigation was started.

Senior Police officers including SP Berhampur visited the scene of crime and scientific team and executive magistrate visited the spot.

The deceased was studying BCA and she was staying with her own sister and other 3 friends/roommates in the Girl’s hostel room.

During investigation, the report of the scientific team was obtained. Inquest was done in the presence of Executive magistrate and post mortem was conducted by a team of doctors. The electronic devices of the deceased and the accused were seized by the police for scientific and technical investigation.

Further investigation going on.
