New Delhi: A temporary bridge in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district was washed away by flash floods on Sunday, October 25, disrupting connectivity for more than 100 families.
The incident occurred near Sauttahalli Kottai village, close to Guduganahalli, where residents depend on the crossing to reach the main road and travel for daily needs.
The bridge was built across an irrigation canal after villagers faced repeated travel difficulties during the monsoon season.
Last year, residents pooled ₹8 lakh from their own funds to construct the temporary causeway, hoping to ensure smoother access to the village.

However, heavy rainfall over the past week caused the canal’s water flow to rise suddenly, sweeping away the structure with the bridge destroyed, residents are now forced to take an alternative route that adds around five kilometres to their journeys.
The disruption has made daily commuting more difficult, particularly for people travelling to work and those dependent on regular access to nearby areas.
Villagers have long demanded a permanent bridge to prevent recurring connectivity problems during the rainy season. Following the latest incident, they have urged the district administration to intervene and restore access as soon as possible.
