Chennai: Actor-turned-politician and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s much-awaited political thriller ‘Jana Nayagan’ has finally received the green signal from the Censor Board.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted the film an ‘A’ certificate after a long 7-month delay and legal dispute. Producer KVN Productions has announced that the film will now release worldwide on July 24.
‘Jana Nayagan’ was originally scheduled to release on January 9 this year. However, the CBFC raised objections over excessive violence and some sensitive scenes. The issue went all the way to the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court.
This is the last film Vijay acted in before entering politics. He had said goodbye to cinema to focus on campaigning for the assembly elections.

Due to the censor delay, the film is now releasing after Vijay has assumed office as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. During the controversy, an unfinished cut of the film was also leaked online. Despite the setbacks, trade analysts expect Jana Nayagan to break several box office records.
The film is directed by H. Vinoth and is being billed as Vijay’s farewell film to cinema.
