Orange warning issued for rain and thunderstorm for 15 districts of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that several districts of Odisha will receive rain along with thunderstorm under the influence of Kalbaisakhi in the next 24 hours today.
According to the weather predictions, an orange warning has been issued for 15 districts including Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Koraput. Some isolated places of these districts has been warned to receive heavy rainfall, thunderstorms with lightning, and gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph today.
Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Rayagada, and Malkangiri are predicted to witness thunderstorm with winds of 40–50 kmph at isolated places.
A Yellow Warning has also been issued for several districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri.
Similarly, hot and humid conditions are expected to persist in isolated pockets in coastal areas of Odisha, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh.

Meanwhile, the state continues to suffer from hot and humid weather. In the last 24 hours, the maximum temperature was recorded in Boudh at 43.2 degrees Celsius, while Bhawanipatna recorded 41 degrees, Bolangir 40.6 degrees and Jharsuguda 40.4 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature was recorded in Phulbani at 22.5 degree celsius.
In terms of rainfall, Rasagobindapur in Mayurbhanj district recorded the highest rainfall of 65 mm, followed by Naugaon in Jagatsinghpur district and Nabana in Mayurbhanj, each receiving 56 mm of rainfall. Rajaghat in Balasore recorded 52.4 mm of rainfall and Sorda in Ganjam recorded 49.4 mm rain.
In conclusion, despite good rainfall in some places, the overall rainfall situation in the state remains worrying. In the last 24 hours, the average rainfall in Odisha was recorded at 3.1 mm, which is 71 percent short of the normal rainfall. The effect of thundershowers and rains is likely to continue for the next two days, and some areas may get partial relief from the heat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a five-day weather outlook indicating widespread rainfall activity accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty surface winds across Odisha from June 14 to June 18, 2026.
