Odisha Minister’s nephew booked for engineering student’s death in Berhampur

Berhampur: Police has reportedly booked Odisha Transport and Commerce Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena’s nephew, Bishwajit Jena, for alleged abetment of an engineering student’s suicide at a private engineering college in Golanthara near Berhampur City of Ganjam district.
According to reports, a police registered the case against Biswajit under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to the abetment of suicide. The case was registered based on the complaint lodged by the uncle of the deceased 21-year-old girl who has been identified as Smruti Bhol.
As claimed by uncle of Smruti, who was studying Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) in the private engineering college, was in a relationship with Biswajit, who was also a final-year BCA student of the same college. However, there was some dispute between them following which Smruti was under mental stress which forced her to take the extreme step.
Smruti was found hanging inside her hostel room yesterday morning and was later rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Soon, police launched an investigation into the matter and questioned Smruti’s friends, classmates and hostel inmates to get some lead in the case.
Further probe into the matter is underway.
