IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall, Nabarangpur suspends classes of Anganwadi and school students

Nabarangpur: Nabarangpur district administration today announced the suspension of classes of Anganwadi and school students across the district tomorrow i.e on Monday (August 24) in view of the heavy to very heavy rainfall prediction of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Nabarangpur district collector Maheswar Swain issued an official order saying that all the anganwadi centers, all government schools, aided and private schools of the district will remain closed tomorrow with an aim to avoid any untoward situation and keeping the safety of the children in mind.

However, the head masters/mistress, teachers and anganwadi workers and other staffs have been directed to remain present in their respective institutions.

“Whereas the India Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm and lightning in the district on 24th August-2026, And whereas, there has been continuous rainfall in various parts of this district leading to situation, which may be difficult for children to navigate,” read the official order.

“Therefore to avoid any untoward situation and keeping the safety of the children in mind the undersigned hereby declares closure of all the Anganwadi Centers, All Govt. Schools, Aided and Private Schools of Nabarangpur District,” it added.

“However, the Head Masters/ Mistress, Teachers & Anganwadi Workers and other staffs shall remain present in their respective institutions as usual,” the order clarified.

It is to be noted here that the regional centre of the IMD has issued a red warning for five districts of the state including Nabarangpur saying that heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at one or two places over these districts. The other four districts which have been classified in the red zone are Kataka, Anugola, Dhenkanal, and Kalahandi.
