Kolkata warehouse collapse death toll rises to 11, rescue operation ongoing

Kolkata: Death toll from the warehouse collapse incident has been numbered to 11 in Taratala area in Kolkata, West Bengal. The incident took place yesterday and till now the rescue operation is being continued to take out the trapped persons.
Three more people who were working at the under construction site have lost their lives either at the site or while getting treated at the hospital.
The deceased persons in this collapse incident are identified as Krishna Chowdhury (30), Rohit Choudhari (40), Rahul Choudhury (17), Chandrama Choudhury (60), Pappu Rajak (40), Azgar Hossain (55), Sahil Sardar (17), Ghi Kumar (17), Hasan Imam (44), and Ganesh Kalindi (45).
As per reports, five more workers were taken out from the warehouse in which they got buried under tonnes of concrete and twisted steel. They have been shifted to hospital for medical treatment.
A total of 19 injured persons are being treated at the hospital right now.
It is being also said that there was halt in rescue operations due to heavy rain in the region. The personnel from the police, fire services, NDRF, and the Army remained deployed at the site.

To rescue the workers who are still trapped inside Army’s GPR system is being used to detect signs of life beneath the collapsed structure. It can detect movement and pulses beneath layers of debris. It will be a great aid for the rescue team and the operation will be completed more easily.
Moreover, cameras have also been put inside to check upon the workers inside and mobile phone tower data is being used to trace the location of individuals whose phones remain active under the debris.
The local Kolkata police have arrested 5 people who gave civic approval including project’s supervisor, iron structure fabricator, land lessee and a broker, according to reports.
The incident has alerted the government and the Chief Minister of Kolkata have urged to check upon all the under construction buildings that were approved during the previous ruling government. The construction to remain halted until the end of July.
This incident occurred when several workers were engaged in construction work at the under construction structure when the roof reportedly fell off. The warehouse was of three floors.
Further investigation into this matter is underway.
