Odisha Student Union Elections: Newly Elected Representatives Take Oath

Bhubaneswar: After a gap of eight years, student union elections have returned to Odisha, marking a significant moment for students across the state. Newly elected student representatives are taking their oaths of office at their respective educational institutions, formally beginning their tenure as student leaders.

The oath-taking ceremonies are being held across 346 colleges and 13 universities in Odisha. Utkal University, popularly known as Vani Vihar, in Bhubaneswar, is witnessing heightened activity as preparations for the ceremony continue under strict security arrangements.

The return of student union elections has provided students with an opportunity to elect their representatives and participate more actively in campus affairs. Student union elections had remained suspended in the state since 2018, making this year’s electoral process particularly significant for the student community.

Security has been strengthened at Utkal University to ensure that the oath-taking ceremony proceeds peacefully. More than 150 CCTV cameras are monitoring the Vani Vihar campus as part of the security arrangements.

Authorities are keeping a close watch to prevent the entry of unauthorised individuals and non-students into the ceremony. The measures are aimed at maintaining discipline and ensuring the safety of students and other participants during the event.

With the election process over, the newly elected representatives now face the responsibility of addressing students’ concerns and safeguarding the academic atmosphere on their campuses.

Issues related to infrastructure development, library facilities, hostel accommodation, drinking water, sanitation and campus security are expected to remain among the key priorities for the new student leadership. Academic concerns and the overall quality of facilities available to students will also require attention.

Students generally look to their elected representatives to act as a bridge between the student community and the college or university administration.

Following the oath-taking ceremonies, the newly elected presidents, secretaries and other office-bearers will formally assume their respective responsibilities.
