Punjab: Punjab Police has secured the deportation of wanted gangster Gurwinder Singh, alias Afridi, from Ethiopia following a 10-month international manhunt. The operation was carried out under Operation SHAHID with the support of central agencies and international coordination.
According to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in coordination with the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) of Punjab’s Counter Intelligence wing, led the operation.
The Punjab government had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to Afridi’s arrest. Gurwinder is identified by the police as a key kingpin of the Doni Bal–Prabh Dassuwal gang.

Preliminary investigations suggest that he was allegedly directing targeted killings, extortion-related firing incidents and other organised criminal activities in Punjab while operating from abroad.
The operation involved intelligence gathering, surveillance and tracking across several countries in Asia, South America and Africa. The DGP also acknowledged the support of the Ministry of External Affairs and other central agencies in securing his return.
Gurwinder arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport early Sunday and is being taken to Punjab by an Anti-Gangster Task Force team. Further investigation is expected to establish his alleged role in criminal activities.
