Bhadrak: Two workers including a woman injured after falling into lime tank

Basudevpur: Two workers including a woman, were critically injured after falling into a hot lime tank at a brick factory in Bhadrak district of Odisha on Saturday. The incident took place in the brick factory near Charichhaki Canal in Brahman Panchayat under Basudevpur block.

The two victims have been identified as Puja Behera from Rupsa village in Balasore district and Kailash, a resident of Tulasibani village in Bangriposi area of Mayurbhanj district.

The incident reportedly occurred when Puja slipped and fell into a tank filled with hot lime while pouring lime to it. She suffered severe burns and cried out for help. Hearing her screams, co-worker Kailash jumped into the tank to rescue her. While he managed to pull Puja out, he sustained serious injuries himself.

According to fellow workers, Puja suffered nearly 80% burn injury, and Kailash sustained injuries to his eyes.

Both were initially rushed to Basudevpur Hospital by other workers. After preliminary treatment, they were shifted to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital for advanced medical treatment.

The incident has raised questions after locals pointed out that the brick factory owner, Bitu Rana, allegedly did not accompany the critically injured workers to the hospital and remained at home.
