Odisha team reaches Chennai following industrial gas leak tragedy

Chennai: A team from the Odisha government has reached Chennai to manage relief and rehabilitation after an industrial gas leak tragedy claimed the lives of workers from the state and injured several others.

As per reports, one dead worker’s body had been brought to Chennai on Sunday night.

A post mortem is being held on Monday and team member M.M. Paik will stay on in Chennai for follow-up with the Joint Commissioner of Labour and officers of the Government Medical College hospital on the post mortem procedures and other formalities.

Special Secretary of the Labour & ESI Department Rajesh Agrawala and Deputy Labour Commissioner B.B. Acharya would be going to Tiruvallur where some of the injured persons have been admitted.

Sources revealed that some of the injured workers are in a critical condition and another dead body is lying in Tiruvallur.

Accommodation has been made for about 130 workers in a local community hall with food and all basic facilities  being provided.

The State Government has already established contact with senior officers of the Labour Department both in Chennai and Tiruvallur and discussions are on with the local authorities.
