New Delhi: Indian Cricket senior team is likely to have leadership changes as Shreyas Iyer is set to replace SuryaKumar Yadav as T20 Internationals caption, according to sources.
BCCI has announced to appoint a new skipper for the T20 Internationals ahead of the tours of Ireland and England that will start later this month.
Despite Surya’s efforts that led the team to win the T20 World Cup, BCCI says that it’s time to move on and India should have a new skipper for the new cycle.
Surya’s performance recently has deteriorated and he has made very less runs in the IPL season. He scored 270 runs in 13 innings, averaging 20.76 this season.

35-year-old SuryaKumar Yadav succeeded Rohit Sharma and became the skipper after post World Cup win in the West Indies in 2024. There is no confirmation if he will be getting a place in the squad for the upcoming games or not.
Shreyas Iyer, 31 has not played T20I since December 2023. He has been called in to be part of the T20 squad this year for replacing an injury player against New Zealand. However he didn’t play a single match as the authorities preferred to pick players who were going to play T20 WC.
Shreyas is a proven captain. He won the IPL with KKR in 2024, and took DC to the final in 2020 and PBKS to the final in 2025. He also scored heavily with 604 runs at 175.07 strike rate in 2025, and 498 runs at 168.81 strike rate in 2026.
India will be playing two T20Is in Belfast on June 26 and 28 in Ireland. Five in England from July 1 to 11.
