Low pressure area intensifies into depression, IMD issues red warning for very heavy rainfall over Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: The low pressure area over coastal West Bengal and adjoining areas of Bangladesh and northwest Bay of Bengal intensified into depression, informed the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today and is expected to trigger very heavy rainfall over Odisha in next 24 hours.

According to the weather department, heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places very likely to occur over the districts of Sundaragada and Kendujhar. For this, IMD has issued red warning.

This apart the weather department also has issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places over the district of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kataka, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, and Mayurbhanj.

Besides, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 40-50 kmph) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, IMD forecasted.

Yellow warning for heavy rainfall over one or two places over the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Subarnapur, Boudh, Balangir, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada is also sounded by the weather scientist. Moreover, thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Subarnapur, Boudh, Balangir, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada.
