New Delhi: The journey for India’s aviation reached a new dimension on Monday as the highly anticipated Noida International Airport in Jewar began commercial flights.
The airport received its first commercial scheduled flight from IndiGo on a Lucknow route, kick-starting passenger flight services at one of the country’s biggest greenfield airports.
The airport’s opening is hailed as a significant step for connectivity in the region and western Uttar Pradesh.
Planned as another large international entry point into the Delhi-NCR region, the airport is predicted to relieve congestion at the IGI airport while creating space for economic development and travel.

As a significant gesture, most of the first travelers were farmers from local areas who had made sacrifices by donating their farmlands several years ago, proving that a land of crops can also be a hub of flights.
The first phase of the airport has been built for Rs 11,200 crore and will see 12 million passengers flying annually, while its capacity will expand considerably after complete expansion, making it one of the largest airports in India.
Authorities are convinced it would enhance travel, cargo, business, and development across the country and particularly in UP and the entire NCR region.
Starting commercial flights from Noida International Airport would equip Delhi-NCR with a second international airport, increase connectivity, generate jobs, and take the pressure off other airports in the area.
