Bhubaneswar: Although Cyclone Arnab has weakened, its impact continues to trigger rainfall across Odisha, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange warning for three districts on Thursday.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of western Odisha, while thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected in several areas.

Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh districts are under an orange warning, with rainfall of up to 20 cm possible at isolated locations. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph are also likely. Residents in these districts have been advised to remain alert as intense rainfall could disrupt normal life.

The IMD has also forecasted heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balangir, Nuapada, Subarnapur, Deogarh, Sambalpur and Balasore districts. Isolated places in these areas may receive rainfall ranging from 7 cm to 11 cm.

Meanwhile, no specific heavy rainfall warning has been issued for several coastal, central and southern Odisha districts, including Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Koraput and Malkangiri. However, scattered rainfall remains possible in these regions, along with lightning and thunderstorms in some areas.

Wind speeds of 30–40 kmph are expected in certain districts, with gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph. In some areas, winds may blow at 40–50 kmph, with gusty winds reaching upto 60 kmph.

According to the weather department, the warning will remain in effect from 8:30 am on Thursday until 8:30 am on Friday, October 30.

The IMD has cautioned that persistent heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and cause disruptions. Residents, particularly in western and northern Odisha, have been urged to exercise caution and follow official weather advisories.
