BIS JKBO organises training programme - Greater Kashmir
by GK NEWS SERVICE · Greater KashmirJammu, Nov 29: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), successfully conducted the sixth edition of its *Learning Science via Standards* (LSVS) Training Programme at Lemon Tree Hotel, Jammu, from November 28 to 29.
The programme was inaugurated by Islam Khan, Assistant Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Regional Office, Jammu, who praised BIS for its efforts to inspire quality education through standardization. The event brought together over 80 science teachers and mentors from districts including Jammu, Reasi, Kathua, and Samba.
A notable aspect of the program was a visit to the BIS Referral Assaying Laboratory in Jammu, where participants gained hands-on experience with advanced gold testing methods such as cupellation, partition, and XRF, showcasing the application of BIS standards in ensuring product quality and authenticity.
Guided by Tilak Raj, Director and Head of BIS JKBO, the program featured insightful sessions led by Monika Sharma and Mehak Rasool. The discussions explored the role of BIS-certified products in ensuring quality and safety, the integration of scientific knowledge with standards, and the development of lesson plans that connect theoretical concepts to practical applications.
Participants engaged in interactive activities, gaining a deeper understanding of the intersection of science, quality, and standards.
Outstanding mentors who excelled in conducting BIS standard club activities in schools were recognized and presented with mementos, while 16 school mentors were honored for their contributions.
