Srinagar, Oct 6: National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah Sunday expressed optimism about the NC-Congress alliance securing a majority in the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls and welcomed the recent indication from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of their willingness to join the alliance, calling it a “great development”.

The three-time chief minister, Abdullah said, “This is a positive step forward. Congratulations to them. We are all on the same path. We must put an end to hatred and work together to keep J&K united.”

His remarks came after PDP leaders hinted at their readiness to collaborate with the NC-Congress alliance to prevent the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from coming to power.

About the exit polls, Abdullah refrained from commenting directly, saying, “On October 8, the results will speak for themselves. The ballot boxes will be opened, and we will see where everyone stands. However, I am confident that the NC-Congress alliance will emerge victorious with a clear majority.”

The statement follows PDP’s statements that the party was open to joining the alliance in a bid to safeguard the identity of Kashmir and form a secular government.
