The preliminary results of the autopsy on Liam Payne have been revealed by specialists who carried it out. The former One Direction singer was killed in a fall from the third floor of his hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina last night at the age of just 31.

The autopsy was performed by the Forensic Medical Corps at the Judicial Morgue on Viamonte Street. Local outlet Infobae had access to the preliminary results which have been revealed in Argentinian media.

According to the report by the two specialists who conducted the autopsy, Payne died from “multiple traumas” that caused “internal and external bleeding.” Reports said preliminary result is consistent with a ten-metre fall he suffered from the balcony of his room, located on the third floor of the Casa Sur hotel on Godoy Cruz Street.

Although this information does not indicate it, a toxicological and anatomical-pathological study of his blood and urine to find traces of drugs, among other factors, is expected and standard protocol in these cases. Additionally, the musician’s medical history might be requested to analyse his mental health history.

Last night, personnel from the Mobile Criminalistics Unit of the City Police of Buenos Aires collected forensic evidence in the room at Casa Sur hotel. At the scene, police experts found a bottle of whiskey, a lighter, and a phone that could belong to Payne, which may be examined for messages.

Fingerprints were found on all objects. Investigators found a mess in the room was evident, with a broken television and tests are set to be carried out on substances found in the room by a chemical lab. The report said: “A notebook and the musician’s passport were seized and handed over to Prosecutor No. 16. Other elements caught investigators’ attention, such as various melted candles and metallic paper found in several places in the room, like the desk and jacuzzi, as well as fragments of cans with burn marks. Over-the-counter medications were also found at the scene. There was a half-drunk glass of champagne next to the television.”

According to police in Buenos Aires, officers were initially responding to reports “of an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol”. Pictures showed shocked fans gathering outside the hotel after police cordoned off the area, with forensic investigators in white protective suits and blue gloves seen entering and leaving.
