BMW India has launched the updated 7 Series range, bringing significant design, technology and powertrain upgrades to its flagship luxury sedan. The lineup comprises petrol-powered BMW 740 M Sport, electric i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport and range-topping i7 M70 xDrive.

BMW 740 M Sport and i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport are priced at Rs 1.95 crore each, while the performance-focused i7 M70 xDrive costs Rs 2.65 crore. Bookings are open, with deliveries scheduled to commence in October 2026.

BMW i7 Now Assembled In India

One of the biggest developments is local assembly of BMW i7 at BMW Group Plant Chennai. However, the high-performance i7 M70 will continue to arrive in India as a completely built-up unit (CBU).

The updated 7 Series also gets a substantially revised appearance. Highlights include BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille, BMW Individual crystal headlights with Swarovski elements, redesigned bumpers, flush door handles and new rear lights. M Sport versions additionally receive sportier bumpers, 20-inch wheels and M Sport brakes.

BMW i7 eDrive50 xDrive gets a new 112.5 kWh battery and produces 455 hp and 660 Nm. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. More importantly, WLTP range has increased by 125 km to 728 km. BMW 740 M Sport continues with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine, producing 400 hp and 540 Nm. It completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.4 seconds.

Sitting at the top is the new i7 M70 xDrive, which BMW calls the most powerful 7 Series yet. Its dual motors generate 680 hp, while torque reaches 1,015 Nm in Sport mode and up to 1,100 Nm with Launch Control or Sport Boost. The i7 M70 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds and has a claimed WLTP range of 686 km.

Both electric versions support up to 250 kW DC charging, allowing a 10-80% charge in a claimed 28 minutes. BMW also provides i7 and i7 M70 customers with a complimentary 22 kW wallbox charger and installation.

New Panoramic iDrive And Passenger Screen

Technology inside receives a major overhaul inspired by BMW’s Neue Klasse models. BMW Panoramic Vision projects information across the lower section of the windscreen, accompanied by a 17.9-inch central touchscreen running BMW Operating System X. For the first time on 7 Series, there is also a 14.6-inch passenger touchscreen. It automatically darkens if the interior camera detects the driver’s attention being diverted towards it.

Rear passengers continue to get the 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen along with Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound. Executive Lounge seating allows a reclined position of up to 43 degrees. Automatic doors have also been upgraded with radar-based detection.
