Tata Tiago Base Variant Reach Showrooms – Smart Trim Walkaround
by Akshay Kulkarni · RushLaneTata Motors has just launched the Tiago facelift in the country and it has a headline figure of an entry price point of Rs 4.69 lakh (Ex-sh). This price point is for the base ‘Smart’ Petrol MT variant and it has been positioned there to draw in buyers from rival brands. Adi Zone YouTube channel published a detailed walkaround video of Tiago base variant, showcasing its equipment.
Tata Tiago Base Variant
The base Tata Tiago facelift is called Smart Petrol MT variant and it is offered at a price point of Rs 4.69 lakh (Ex-sh). It is slightly higher than the pre-facelift model, but the company is offering more equipment to justify that price tag.
From the outside, base Tiago facelift variant can be identified as a base model as it is built to be offered at a lower price tag. For starters, we don’t get body coloured door handles, which is the primary giveaway, when compared to the new chrome-studded door handle offered on higher variants.
ORVMs are not painted and get a raw plastic finish. Side turn indicators are mounted on the front quarter panel and not on ORVMs. These ORVMs are not powered, but they are internally adjustable with a stalk. There is no antenna with the base model as it does not offer a music system.
Other missing exterior elements include rear washer and wiper along with rear defogger, request sensor for boot release as there is no remote key and central locking. There are no wheel covers as well, which can be installed as accessories. Tata is providing the same wheel arch cladding as top variant and the C-pillar Black element in base variant, which we saw with mid variants and top variants.
Interior Features
On the inside, Tata is giving the same fabric inserts on dashboard and door trims even in the base variant. This new dashboard will unlock more room on the inside as it is less protruding than before. There are no power windows on all four corners and even central locking is absent. Music system, speakers, dimmable IRVM and other elements are absent in base mode, which is understandable.
Interior lighting is surprisingly LEDs, same as top variant and so are the grab handles (soft retracting at front left and fixed rear). Seats are similar too and there is no centre armrest at the front. Instrument cluster is the same as top variant along with the new steering wheel with steering-mounted controls to operate the cluster.
There’s manual AC and the same centre console as mid variants without a wireless charger. Spare wheel seems to be missing from the base variant, but the company seems to be offering a puncture repair kit and one can install a parcel shelf at a nominal cost too. The same 1.2L engine with manual gearbox as top variant is present in the base variant too, but the gear knob is not as fancy.
