Honda 0 Alpha EV Spied Testing On Broken Roads – Launch Soon
by Satya Singh · RushLaneExpected to be later this year or early 2027, the Honda 0 Alpha EV is one of several new products lined up for the Indian market
Honda Cars has identified India as one of its key markets, along with North America and Japan. There are plans to introduce 10 new cars in India by 2030. These include a new sub-4m SUV and a new midsize SUV.
Honda is also working on the 0 Alpha electric SUV, which has been spotted multiple times in recent months. Latest spy shots reveal the 0 Alpha EV undergoing road tests somewhere near company plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan.
Tall stance, aero-efficient design
Honda has chosen a largely utilitarian design for its 0 Alpha EV, even though the SUV has a distinctive body style. The core silhouette appears quite different from the typical design of modern-day SUVs. There’s purposeful intent behind this design approach to achieve a clear differentiation in a segment that’s getting increasingly crowded with each passing year.
Honda 0 Alpha has a tall presence, which will ensure optimal space for all passengers. While the beltline runs parallel to the ground, there’s only a slight slope on the roof. Side profile has smooth shaped panels and squared-off wheel arches. The SUV is using aero-efficient wheels, which appear quite large, likely 18-inch units.
At the rear, Honda 0 Alpha has a largely flat boot lid, a roof mounted spoiler, a large windscreen, a layered bumper and horizontally stacked reflectors. Earlier spy shots had revealed vertically positioned tail lamps. At the front, 0 Alpha EV has an upright fascia, a closed-off grille and a prominent bumper section. The SUV uses sharp lighting elements, which give it a distinctly futuristic vibe.
Loaded with features
With consumers showing a great appetite for gadgetry, Honda has equipped the 0 Alpha with a comprehensive range of premium features. Previous spy shots had revealed the presence of a large centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment system. Also included is a rectangular digital instrument cluster, which is relatively smaller in size. The infotainment screen can be seen in these latest spy shots as well.
Honda 0 Alpha EV is expected to get features like connected car technology, wireless smartphone charging, turn-by-turn navigation and a host of EV-specific functions. The SUV is using a new steering wheel that has multi-function controls. Physical controls are expected to be provided alongside the digital options for enhanced practicality. Overall theme for the cabin appears minimalist, prioritizing comfort and utility.
Performance, range
Detailed specifications of Honda 0 Alpha EV have not been revealed. It is possible that the SUV could get 65 kWh to 75 kWh LFP battery packs, offering a range of over 500 km. Honda has highlighted a thin, light and wise born-EV platform for 0 Alpha, featuring a compact e-Axle powertrain module. The SUV will have DC fast charging with 20% to 80% achievable in around 15 minutes.
0 Alpha is expected to have a wheelbase of around 2,700-2,800 mm, which is ~ 100 mm longer than the Elevate SUV. A single-motor, FWD layout is likely for 0 Alpha. Upon launch, Honda 0 Alpha will take on rivals like Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Sierra EV. Launch is expected to take place later this year post Diwali or early 2027.
