Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line Discontinued In India
by Akshay Kulkarni · RushLaneFor a considerable amount of time, Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line stood tall as the brand’s flagship offering in the country. This 5-seater premium mid-size SUV was launched in India in April 2025 and it was imported into the country as a CBU (Completely Built Unit).
Even though the company has not made any public announcements, Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line has now been discontinued from India and is de-listed from the official website. An official statement for this development is not released yet, but buyers looking for a premium mid-size SUV from VW can still look into Tayron.
Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line Discontinued
Tiguan R-Line’s last recorded price tag was Rs 47.11 lakh (Ex-sh) and the company has now de-listed it from their official website, hinting at a possible discontinuation from the Indian market. Sold alongside the Tiguan R-Line was the slightly larger and more practical Tayron R-Line offering flexibility of three-row seating.
In terms of prices, Tayron R-Line is priced at Rs 47.74 lakh (Ex-sh), which is around the same price tag as Tiguan-R Line. Also, making a stronger case for Tayron R-Line was the fact that it was a locally assembled model brought into the country via CKD route (Completely Knocked Down) and assembled at their facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Because Tayron is a locally assembled model, Volkswagen also offers it in multiple variants and one of those variants is called Tayron Life, which is a 5-seater version of the 7-seater Tayron with more space in second row and then a larger boot. This 5-seater Tayron Life was priced at Rs 41.99 lakh (Ex-sh).
With Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line discontinued, the brand’s SUV portfolio for the Indian market has come down to two models – Taigun and Tayron. Taigun is the more affordable mass-market offering while Tayron is for buyers with aspirations to own a larger and a more premium mid-size SUV with a dash of performance and a host of features and technology.
2.0L Turbo Petrol Engine
The same 2.0L Turbo Petrol engine as Tayron R-Line also powered the Tiguan R-Line. This engine developed 201 bhp of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque, mated to a sole 7-speed DSG transmission. Volkswagen’s 4MOTION AWD system was standard with Tiguan R Line.
