Mahindra Vision S Design Patented – New SUV Launch Likely In 2027
by Satya Singh · RushLaneExpected to be launched in 2027, Vision S could be positioned as a sub-4m offering, challenging rivals like the Jimny
Among the four NU_IQ-based ‘Vision’ concepts Mahindra had unveiled last year, the X, T and SXT have already been patented. Vision S was the one pending and it too has now been patented. Most of the features are largely the same as seen with the concept. However, specific features and accessories will vary with the production model, depending on the variant.
Tall, commanding presence
Mahindra Vision S design patent reveals an upright front fascia, inverted L shaped enclosures for the primary lighting elements and space for the illuminated 6-slot grille seen on the concept. The SUV has a rugged bull bar styled bumper, underbody protection and a clamshell bonnet. A number of features shown in the design sketch are likely to be offered as accessories with the production model.
These include the limb risers, auxiliary lights at the front and roof mounted ladder and utility racks. Side profile has protruding, squared-off wheel arches, body cladding, flush-fitting door handles and precision-cut window frames. The SUV has a tall profile, which could mean superior interior space relative to proportions typically seen in the sub-4m segment.
Sleek camera-based ORVMs have been used, although the production version is expected to get more conventional units, as seen with the test mules. A largely flat beltline and roofline are noticeable. At the rear, key highlights include a spare tyre, a flat tailgate and a chunky bumper. The SUV is expected to get vertically stacked tail lamps in a connected format.
With the Vision S, the target could be enthusiasts who want a family-oriented ride with a boxier, ladder-frame-inspired off-road stance. At its core, Vision S uses a monocoque construction, which fulfils needs like urban ride comfort and fuel efficiency. There are hardly any sub-4m SUVs that currently offer this dynamic mix. However, rivals are already emerging as seen with models like Renault Bridger and the rumoured Tata Scarlet.
Interior, powertrain options
Inside, a number of features for Vision S could be borrowed from Thar Roxx and BE 6. Test mules have revealed features such as a large centrally mounted touchscreen, a digital instrument console and a two-spoke steering wheel (similar to BE 6). While focused on digital paraphernalia, the SUV also has plenty of physical buttons and knobs for easy, hassle-free accessibility.
Similar to Mahindra’s newer models, the Vision S could get the next-gen AdrenoX OS with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features expected include a single pane sunroof (pano option with higher trims), ventilated seats and wireless charging. Safety kit could include Level-2 ADAS and a 360 camera setup.
Based on the modular NU_IQ platform, Vision S can accommodate a wide variety of powertrain options. While starting with petrol and diesel, EV and hybrid options can be launched at a later date. Road testing of the Vision has been going on for some time now. It is likely to get 1.2L petrol turbo engine from XUV 3XO and a 1.5 liter diesel from Thar OG.
