Two-wheeler retail sales in India witnessed a significant year-on-year (YoY) decline in October 2026, with total registrations falling to 23,21,419 units. According to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the overall automotive retail market also registered a sharp decline, primarily due to a shift in the festive calendar.
While Navratri fell in October this year, Dhanteras and Diwali celebrations have moved to November, impacting vehicle purchases during the month. Despite this sharp YoY decline, FADA noted that October 2026 was the second-best October on record for two-wheeler retail sales.
Fuel-wise Two Wheeler Sales Breakup
Petrol/ethanol-powered two-wheelers continued to dominate the Indian market, accounting for 90.30% of total retail sales in October 2026. Electric two-wheelers contributed a 9.65% share, while CNG/LPG-powered models accounted for the remaining 0.05%.
Demand trends indicated stronger sales momentum in urban markets as compared to that seen in rural areas. Rural demand was impacted due to deficient rainfall, coupled with a weak Kharif crop which had an adverse effect on consumer sentiment and purchasing activity.
