350cc Triumph 400 Range

In July, prices of Triumph 350cc bikes have been increased in the range of Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000

To ensure customers can benefit from the lower 18% GST rate, Triumph had launched 350cc versions of its 400cc bikes in April. Prices were largely unchanged at that time. However, prices were increased in June for Speed T4, Speed 400, Scrambler 400 XC and Thruxton 400. Interestingly, Triumph has again increased prices for these 350cc offerings. And this time, the price hike applies to the entire 350cc range.

With the latest price hike, some 350cc models now cost more than their earlier 400cc counterparts. This would have naturally occurred in due course. But seeing it happen within just a few months comes as a bit of a surprise. However, the price hike is still modest, ranging from 1.22% to 5.03%.

Speed T4 is the most affordable in Triumph’s 350cc range. This model has the highest price hike of Rs 10,000. New price of Speed T4 is Rs 2.09 lakh, as compared to Rs 1.99 lakh earlier. While the price hike seems manageable, it does erode the psychological advantage associated with an under Rs 2 lakh price tag.

Speed 400, which was earlier available at Rs 2.34 lakh, is now priced at Rs 2.40 lakh. A difference of Rs 6,000 means a hike of 2.56%. Tracker 400 has the lowest price hike of just Rs 3,000. New price is Rs 2.49 lakh, as compared to Rs 2.46 lakh earlier. This is an increase of 1.22%.

Scrambler 400 X price has been increased from Rs 2.59 lakh to Rs 2.65 lakh. That’s an increase of Rs 6,000 or 2.32%. Thruxton 400 will now cost Rs 2.75 lakh, as compared to Rs 2.70 lakh earlier. That’s an increase of Rs 5,000 or 1.85%. Scrambler 400 XC price has been increased by Rs 5,000, which is 1.70%. New price is Rs 2.99 lakh, as compared to Rs 2.94 lakh earlier.

Impact on sales?

Even with back to back price hikes over two months, it is unlikely to have any major impact on sales of Triumph 350cc bikes. This lineup is currently ranked 6th in the list of bestselling 350cc-450cc bikes. Royal Enfield continues to lead this space with bikes like Classic 350, Bullet 350, Hunter 350 and Meteor 350.

Triumph’s strategy to offer a wide range of options in the 350cc space has been quite effective. This is something similar to the approach utilized by Royal Enfield. Triumph is planning to introduce more bikes in this space to sustain and potentially improve the sales momentum. This strategy will also help cater to diverse needs across export markets.

One of the upcoming new additions is the Bonneville 400 (350cc), which was recently spied on road tests. Triumph Bonneville 400 (350cc) is especially designed to take on rivals like Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Honda CB350. Bonneville 400 is expected to be the most retro-styled bike in Triumph’s entry-level lineup. Launch is likely planned in the second half of this year.
