Sub 4m SUV Sales Aug 2026 – Punch, Fronx, Nexon, Brezza, Venue, Sonet, XUV 3XO, Exter, Kylaq, Syros
by Pearl Daniels · RushLaneIndia’s sub-4 metre SUV segment recorded strong growth in August 2026, with combined sales of 1,21,391 units. This was a 40.88% increase over 86,169 units sold in August 2025. Compared to July 2026, when 1,16,552 units were sold, segment sales improved by 4.15%. Tata Punch / Punch EV maintained its lead with 21,320 units, while Maruti Fronx and Tata Nexon / Nexon EV completed the top three. Of the 14 models listed, only Jimny and Kiger registered YoY declines.
Sub 4m SUV Sales Aug 2026 – YoY
Punch / Punch EV sales almost doubled YoY, rising 99.18% from 10,704 units to 21,320 units. It commanded 17.56% of the segment in August. Sales were almost flat compared to July’s 21,313 units. Maruti Fronx was second with 18,730 units, registering 50.78% YoY growth from 12,422 units. However, sales declined 3.82% MoM from 19,473 units.
Tata Nexon / Nexon EV followed closely with 18,431 units, up 31.61% YoY and 5.49% MoM. Together, Punch and Nexon contributed 39,751 units, highlighting Tata’s strong presence in the sub-4m SUV space. Maruti Brezza ranked fourth with 15,288 units. Sales increased 12.25% YoY, while MoM growth was much stronger at 26.82% from 12,055 units.
Hyundai Venue posted 11,365 units, up 40.15% YoY and 2.43% MoM. Kia Sonet followed with 9,048 units, registering growth of 16.88% YoY and 1.51% MoM. Mahindra XUV3XO / EV recorded 8,302 units. While this represented a healthy 50.37% YoY increase, sales fell 11.95% from 9,429 units in July.
Hyundai Exter was among the stronger performers with 8,157 units. Sales jumped 61.17% YoY and 19.78% MoM. Further down the list, Skoda Kylaq recorded 3,590 units, up 15.84% YoY but down 3.68% MoM. Toyota Taisor sales stood at 2,863 units, registering 6.71% YoY and 15.91% MoM growth.
Syros Posts Biggest YoY Growth
Kia Syros / EV posted the highest percentage YoY growth on the list, thanks to the arrival of EV version. Sales increased from just 308 units in August 2025 to 1,742 units last month, a gain of 465.58%. It was also the strongest MoM performer, growing 33.69%. Nissan Magnite recorded 1,495 units, up 8.02% YoY, while Maruti Jimny slipped 2.82% to 586 units. Renault Kiger finished at 474 units, registering the steepest YoY decline of 47.91%.
OEM Wise Performance
OEM-wise analysis shows Tata emerging as the clear leader in the sub-4m SUV segment, with 39,751 units and a commanding 32.75% market share. Tata sales grew 60.88% YoY, adding over 15,000 units, helped by strong demand for Punch and Nexon. Maruti ranked second with 34,604 units and 28.51% share, registering 29.87% growth, while Hyundai took third place with 19,522 units and 16.08% share, up 48.23%.
Mahindra recorded a strong 50.37% YoY improvement, although its 6.84% share remains behind Kia at 8.89%. Interestingly, every OEM except Renault posted YoY growth, with Renault sales falling 47.91%. Overall, the segment expanded by a substantial 40.88% YoY to 1,21,391 units, with Tata and Maruti together controlling more than 61% of the market.
