The BBC has concluded filming for the highly-anticipated final episode of Gavin and Stacey, much to the disappointment of its legions of fans. The well-loved cast members took their leave from the iconic locations ingrained in the series' history.

Seen departing from Barry's Tadross Hotel, famously known to viewers as The Dolphin pub from the series' Christmas special, was an ensemble including Ruth Jones (Nessa), James Corden (Smithy), Alison Steadman (Pam Shipman), Larry Lamb (Mick Shipman), Joanna Page (Stacey West), Rob Brydon (Uncle Bryn), and Melanie Walters (Gwen). They shared moments with fans, taking photos and signing autographs.

A touching Instagram Post by the BBC featured a clapperboard marked 'Gavin and Stacey: The Finale' followed by the caption: "And that's a wrap... for the last time ever. See you on Christmas Day! " Online buzz soared following the announcement, with emotional fan comments such as "We're not ready. Genuine" and the hopeful "I'm excited if truth be told."

Following the heart-stopping cliffhanger of Smithy's unresolved proposal to Nessa in the last Christmas special, viewers have been clamouring for a resolution. Enthusiasts have been flocking to the filming sites, eager for one final sighting of their cherished characters, reports the Mirror.

The filming concluded at Pam and Mick's 'Essex' home, which is actually located in South Wales. James expressed his gratitude to fans, saying: "Today is our last day in "Essex". Everyone in Dinas Powys has been so great to the show and all of you that have come out here today, so thank you very, very much. It means more to us than you will ever know and we really, really hope you like the show."

Ruth also thanked the fans, stating: "Thanks so much for being such dedicated fans and for being here every day and watching us even though we were there hid in the house. We hope that you will enjoy our little episode on Christmas Day."

Earlier this year, Ruth and James announced that the show would return for one more Christmas special.

They shared on social media: "Some news... It's official! ! ! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James."
