Chris McCausland, the blind comedian and Strictly Come Dancing contestant, has sought medical advice after suffering an injury during training. The 47 year old is due to perform an emotional waltz with his professional dance partner Dianne Buswell to the Liverpool anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone' this Saturday.

However, Chris disclosed that he had to consult the Strictly physio team as he sprained his wrist ahead of the live show. In a piece for The Times, Chris detailed his intense training week with Australian dancer Dianne, revealing that despite scoring 30 points for their impressive salsa last week, he was battling a "horrible stinking cold".

He humorously shared that he informed Dianne about his illness "several times an hour", leading her to scold him for "moaning". "I would simply say that I was keeping her up-to-date with what my body was telling me – and my body was moaning," Chris joked.

He confessed to feeling "particularly bunged up on Friday and Saturday", even performing on the live show while "struggling to breathe through my nose". He quipped that he would have "suffocated" if he'd been required to keep his mouth closed during the dance.

Fans were left disappointed to hear that the beloved comedian has joined the list of celebrities who have suffered injuries on this year's Strictly Come Dancing, even causing an accident with his dance partner Dianne during practice due to a sprained wrist. "As sprains go, it was a mild one and I was deemed fit to dance by the Strictly physio, but I needed to wear a wrist support," Chris recounted, reports the Mirror.

He admitted, "On the Thursday I did actually forget to put this wrist support on and ended up dropping poor Dianne in a rather unflattering heap on the floor. Sorry Dianne."

The duo is aiming to bounce back with their salsa performance this week. Chris also shared his concerns about performing the waltz to 'You'll Never Walk Alone' on It Takes Two with host Fleur East, fearing he might disappoint Liverpool fans.

"Everyone has a connection to the song so you don't want it to be rubbish," he said. "If we can do something that Liverpool fans like, I have done it well. If we can do something that Everton and Manchester United fans like, we have worked a miracle! ".

Viewers were moved to tears after Chris made the heartfelt revelation that he embraces Dianne tightly at the end of each dance to prevent himself from breaking down. "I hug you so tight at the end so that I can make sure I'm not going to cry on telly. The relief of getting through it then for you to be so ecstatic at the end and the audience reaction to it. It's a lot and my little lip wobbles. I gave you a hug and I held on until I knew I could speak," he confessed, acknowledging how "the people's support is overwhelming".
