Thousands of jobs at risk as Homebase collapses into administration

by · NottinghamshireLive

Homebase has gone into administration, putting 2,000 jobs at risk. Its owner, Hilco, had been trying to sell the struggling retailer but was unable to secure an outright buyer.

The owner of homeware chain The Range has stepped in, purchasing up to 70 Homebase stores and the brand, which will help protect around 1,600 jobs. However, 49 Homebase stores remain without a buyer, leaving thousands of jobs—both in-store and at the head office—uncertain, the BBC reports.

Administrators at Teneo have not yet revealed which locations are at risk of closure. There are two Homebase stores located in Nottinghamshire - in Daybrook and Newark.

The 49 at-risk stores will continue trading while Teneo searches for a buyer, and there will be no immediate redundancies.

Along with the 70 stores, CDS Superstores, the owner of The Range, has also acquired the Homebase brand and its intellectual property. The Homebase brand will continue to operate online, and its physical locations will be rebranded as The Range.
