Ange Postecoglou has given Nottingham Forest 'green light' after Evangelos Marinakis meeting
by Jake Stokes · NottinghamshireLiveAnge Postecoglou has already revealed that he's open to a return to management. The 60-year-old has been heavily linked with the Nottingham Forest job for a while now, and, with Nuno Espirito Santo out of the door, has emerged as a potential successor at the City Ground.
Postecoglou was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur at the end of last season, despite winning the club's first major trophy in 17 years. Shortly after leading the Lilywhites to victory against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final, he was let go.
Daniel Levy, who has since stepped down as Spurs chairman, was heavily criticised by large sections of the fanbase when he fired the former Celtic manager, describing the decision as data-driven.
A month or so later, Postecoglou was pictured with Evangelos Marinakis at the Greek Super League draw, where he was recognised for his achievements. The former Spurs boss was the first Greek-born head coach to win a European trophy.

Upon receiving his award, Postecoglou spoke about the challenges he faced growing up. As quoted by the Greek newspaper Neos Kosmos in Australia, he said: "When I left Greece, my father and my mother, mostly my father, passed on the love they had for football to me.
"I grew up with the names. He supported AEK, Mimi Papaeoannou, Thomas Mavro and [Georgios] Delikaris. I hadn’t seen all these players, but I knew all these names as if I had seen them, because my father always told me about these stories. Since I was little, I had the dream of one day reaching this level.
"Unfortunately, as a player, this wasn’t possible; I realised that early on. But, as a coach, I tried with all the passion I had for football to make, especially my father and my mother, proud of the sacrifices they made, which made them leave their own country, their family, for me and my sister to give us the opportunity to live our dreams.
"And every day I think about that, the sacrifices he made. My father is not with me now, but I know he sees me and is proud of what I have achieved so far. I always have my wife and my children by my side."
On his future, Postecoglou was clear: "The goal is to continue, we’re not done yet."
He added: "I want to do all of Greece and Australia, where I grew up, but especially Greece because I was born here, proud with all the things I hope will happen in the future."
Postecoglou concluded: "But it’s a great honour to be here. I am low profile and don’t talk too much, but know that in my heart these moments remain very close to me. Thank you very much."
Marinakis was very complimentary of Postecoglou. The Forest co-owner said: "What I want to say about Ange is that he has spoken about Greece many times, he is proud to be Greek and in the great success he had with Tottenham by winning the Europa League, he spoke about Greece.
"A man who not only does not hide his origin but is also proud of it. What he achieved, he did with a team that has not won any titles, it has had a very difficult time in recent years. In this huge success that the whole world saw, he promoted Greece.
"We must thank him especially for this and we wish him well, although we are sure that he will do well as he has the ability. Wherever he goes, the successes will come."
