Inside Nottinghamshire's 'ultimate destination' with its own nightclub and swimming pool

It's perfect for big family get-togethers and celebrating milestones

The Secret Escape has been dubbed the 'ultimate destination', and it's easy to see why.

The luxurious getaway stands out for its unique array of features that you won’t find in any other property.

The Nottinghamshire hideaway not only boasts a pool and three hot tubs but a nightclub where you can pull your own pints and dance until the early hours.

The converted barns within a courtyard can sleep up to 26 people, making it popular for big get-togethers, including birthday parties and stag dos.

Located at the top of a farm track, the rural location is surrounded by the ancient woodland of Sherwood Forest.

The holiday home featured on the BBC Two series Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing in 2024, when Bob, Paul and terrier Ted travelled to the county to fish the River Trent for barbel.

They stayed in the grand property on the outskirts of Wellow, a village around 12 miles from Newark, where they were joined in the soundproofed basement nightclub by legendary DJ Tony Blackburn.

The property offers a large central space for everyone to gather, including up to five dogs.

There is a huge dining table that seats 26, while the kitchen has all you need to rustle up a good meal, thanks to two electric ovens and a hob, two fridges, a freezer, a dishwasher and a microwave. Or you could simply hire a private chef to look after you.

You can chill in the lounge watching an 88in Smart TV or let your hair down in the nightclub which has a juke box sound system, a stage, lighting and bar. The main barn has a retro games room with pinball and air hockey.

All nine king-size bedrooms and four twin rooms have an ensuite shower, while a master twin bedroom has an ensuite freestanding bath. Each room has underfloor heating and 55in Smart TVs.

A swimming complex includes a sauna seating 10-12 and an aquarium right next to the pool.

The cost of hiring the property for seven nights comes to more than £15,000, but with a group of 26, it works out at £86 a night. Groups can rent it out for one night for just over £7,000.

Sarah Pring, digital PR manager at holidaycottages.co.uk, said: “We’re so excited that BBC’s Gone Fishing has shone the spotlight on this amazing property. We hope that everyone who gets to stay at The Secret Escape enjoys its long list of amenities and enjoys exploring the culturally rich backdrop of Sherwood Forest.”

Reviews of the property praise it as the ideal place for celebrating big life milestones, with one reviewer labelling The Secret Escape as a “fantastic venue for a 60th birthday get together and everyone commented that they didn’t want to leave!” and another saying it was “the perfect venue for my friends' joint stag do — the venue had literally everything we needed”.

There's more than enough to occupy guests, but should they wish to explore, Wellow has plenty to offer with two pubs, local restaurants and takeaways, plus two spas a short drive away and a chance to channel their inner Robin Hood with archery at Rufford Abbey.
