Photos show police cordon still in place after 'suspicious incident' off A617 Rainworth Bypass

Nottinghamshire Police have not confirmed the nature of the incident yet

A large police cordon remains in place off a busy Nottinghamshire road following a "suspicious incident".

The incident was reported to the police at 2.45pm on Saturday, May 23, at land next to the A617 Rainworth Bypass.

As of 11.30am on Sunday, May 24, the police have not yet confirmed the nature of the incident.

However, a large area located off the bypass remains cordoned off with police tape, with police cars guarding the perimeter.

Footage taken by Lucen Media on Saturday evening also shows numerous forensic officers wearing white hazmat suits attending the scene.

Nottinghamshire Police said in a statement released at 10.30pm on Saturday night: "A police cordon has been set up on land next to the A617 Rainworth Bypass.

"That's after a suspicious incident was reported to the police around 2.45pm earlier today. The ongoing incident poses no wider threat to the public.

"The cordon is set to remain in place for some time, while police continue to conduct inquiries."
