Death toll in Angeles building collapse climbs to 24

MANILA, Philippines — Rescuers have retrieved three more bodies from the site of the Angeles City building collapse on Wednesday morning, June 3, raising the death toll to 24.

In a Facebook update, the Angeles City Public Information Office said the most recently reported casualty was extricated from the rubble at around 10:57 a.m.

“Ang biktima, isang hindi pa nakikilalang lalaki, ay agad na isinailalim sa itinakdang proseso at naiturn over para sa transportasyon dakong 11:13 ng umaga,” the post read.

(The victim, an unidentified male, immediately underwent the necessary process and was turned over for transport at around 11:13 a.m.)

The 22nd and 23rd casualties were retrieved earlier by rescuers at around 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., respectively.

Meanwhile, the 21st casualty retrieved on Tuesday evening was an infant, according to authorities.

Search, rescue and retrieval operations are still ongoing at the site, marking the 11th day of operations today.

The nine-story building, which was under construction, collapsed at around 3 a.m. on May 24. Representatives of the building's owner/developer and contractor have already addressed the public and promised to help the victims' families.
