NDRRMC: 8 dead, 1 missing, due to ‘Luis,’ ‘Maymay,’ habagat

MANILA, Philippines — Eight people have died and one remains missing as Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay and the southwest monsoon affected more than 752,000 people across nine regions, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Monday.

As of 6 a.m. Aug. 10, the NDRRMC recorded eight weather-related deaths across Luzon:

• Batangas, 3: One drowning in Batangas City, one electrocution in Lipa and one landslide death in Santa Teresita
• Rizal (3): Two deaths from a rockslide in Rodriguez and one from a fallen tree in Antipolo
• Benguet (2): Two deaths from rain-induced landslides

Nine people were injured, including seven in Benguet due to landslides and vehicular accidents, one in Rizal due to strong flood currents and one in Cavite.

One person remained missing in Batangas.

Thousands displaced. More than 10,000 families, or around 34,400 people, remained in 412 evacuation centers.

The NDRRMC also recorded 300 damaged houses, including 24 that were destroyed and 276 that were partially damaged.

Preliminary infrastructure damage reached P1.12 billion, while agricultural losses were initially estimated at P3.53 million.

Government agencies and local disaster offices have distributed P33.94 million in assistance and relief goods to affected families.
