Tunisia fires manager after shocking 5-1 defeat by Sweden

Sweden demolished Tunisia with a humiliating 5-1 win on Sunday, leaving the team and fans down.

In the wake of a devastating blow at the World Cup, the management reportedly took a significant decision.

And that is the sacking of Tunisia's manager, Sabri Lamouchi.

He took responsibility for the team in January, after previously spending stints at Ivory Coast, Nottingham Forest, and Cardiff City.

The loss suffered by Tunisia in its opening match leaves their chances hanging by a thread in the World Cup.

According to multiple reports, the announcement is expected to take place on Monday.

With Tunisia set to face Japan in less than a week, a big question facing the team is who will take over as manager in such a short time span.

Assistant coach Michael Hefele, who was previously a defender in Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield, could step into the position on a temporary basis.

Back to the drubbing by Sweden, Tunisia coach Lamouchi previously said, “Starting the competition with this bad of a loss is indeed difficult."

“With world-class players that we have in the two Swedish forwards (Gyokeres and Isak), it’s something that you don’t recover from."

"We made way too many mistakes. We have our pride. We need to react. We need to give a better image," he concluded.
