Maple Leafs’ Max Domi out indefinitely after surgery complications

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that forward Max Domi will be sidelined indefinitely following complications related to offseason surgery.

The team said Domi underwent an operation to treat an issue he had been managing throughout the regular season.

According to the Maple Leafs, the 31-year-old will continue rehabilitation with team medical staff over the summer, with a further update expected during training camp in the autumn.

Domi appeared in 80 games last season, recording 12 goals and 36 points while also leading the team with 95 penalty minutes.

The Winnipeg-born athlete has spent the past three seasons in Toronto and his strongest performance came during the 2023-24 season when he posted 47 points in 80 games.

Domi is the son of former Maple Leafs fan favourite Tie Domi and still has three years remaining on the four-year, $15 million contract extension he signed with Toronto in July 2024.

The deal carries an annual salary cap hit of $3.75 million through the 2028-29 season and includes a 13-team no-trade clause.
