Wales legend George North announces retirement from Rugby

Wales rugby legend George North has officially announced his retirement from professional rugby at the end of the season, marking the conclusion of a storied career just weeks after his 34th birthday.

He retired from international duty in 2024 as one of Wales’ most decorated players, earning 121 caps and scoring 47 tries. North represented the Lions on two tours (2013 and 2017), making three Test appearances and scoring two tries.

 He performed remarkably throughout his career, playing for major clubs including the Scarlets, Northampton Saints, and the Ospreys.

He is currently finishing his professional journey in France, where he has spent the last two seasons playing for the second-tier side Provence.

I want to let you know that at the end of the season, I will be retiring. For me, it's the right time,” North said in a video on social media.

“I have been able to live out my childhood dream for many seasons, playing with some of the best players, coaches and staff behind [the scenes].”

“I can't thank my family, my friends and you guys enough for the support you have shown me over the years. Honestly, it means the world to me.”

He expressed excitement about embarking on a new chapter and he is eager to see where that journey takes him.
