Iran walks out of talks in Switzerland after Trump's threats

In the wake of President Trump's threats, Iran reportedly halted talks with the United States in Switzerland, according to state-affiliated news agency Tasnim and Iranian officials close to Tehran's negotiating team.

The president's tweet in question, which sparked the row, read, “If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder!”

In response to this renewed threat, reports say Tehran officially protested to Washington and informed its counterpart of its consideration of an appropriate response.

In light of this, a key member of Iran's negotiating team, parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, posted a crucial tweet explaining the crux of what Tehran believes is disrupting the talks.

"Do they not realise that if their threats had been effective, they would not have reached today's state of desperation? We do not take the Americans' threats seriously."

The Iranian leader warned, "They would do better to be careful about their statements. Our armed forces are prepared to respond in a different manner."

"No matter how much they talk, we are the ones who act."

It is unclear what the United States' immediate response to Iran's response will be.
