Japan attack: Stabbing, liquid spray assault leave 14 injured, suspect arrested

Fourteen people were injured in a deadly stabbing attack in a central Japan factory on Friday. During the assault, “unspecified” liquid was also sprayed, as reported by an emergency services official.

According to Mr Tomoharu Sugiyama, a firefighting department official in the city of Mishima, Shizuoka region, ““Fourteen people are subject to transportation by emergency services,” as reported by AFP.

Around 4:30pm, a rubber factory reported an attack, saying “five or six people were stabbed by someone” and the attacker also used “spray-like liquid.”

Sugiyama said at least six of fourteen victims had been sent to hospital in a fleet of ambulances.

Japanese media, including public broadcaster NHK, also reported that the attacker has been arrested. The seriousness of injuries has yet unknown and there is not a report of casualties in the wake of knife attack.

The rubber factory in Mishima is run and managed by Yokohama Rubber Co, where the mishap occurred.

Such kinds of violent crimes have been a rarity in Japan as the country has a low murder rate and implemented the world’s stricter gun laws.

However, in 2022 the former prime minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated in a deadly shooting.
