Capcom Says It Will Continue To Grow The Ace Attorney Series

And insists it "won't stop producing content"

Ace Attorney fans worried about the series dropping off can seemingly relax, with Capcom recently easing any concerns in a recent interview.

Speaking to Netlab, Capcom's Kenichi Hashimoto has mentioned how the Japanese developer and publisher "won't stop" producing Ace Attorney content. There are apparently plenty of "directions" the team is looking at taking this long-running series. This even potentially includes more "mixed media".

At the moment, there is not much else the developer can say, and it will be ready to reveal more when the time is right. Here's a translation (via Nintendo Everything):

Kenichi Hashimoto: "The Ace Attorney series won’t stop producing content. We definitely have a lot of directions we want to further grow in, including mixed media. There’s things we’d want to talk about when the time comes that we can reveal something, but for now I can’t say much."

This follows on from the news about Capcom planning to showcase a "special Ace Attorney series introduction video for fans and newcomers".

Fans have speculated it could potentially be teasing more, but Capcom has now responded asking everyone to manage their expectations and noting how the trailer will not be introducing any "new" projects. You see this full update in our previous post:

Apparently this also came with an announcement that they also have no announcement to make...

THEN WHY DID YOU MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT?!?!?!

Looking forward to seeing what they will come up with next in general and of course even more so when it comes to the games themselves, especially now that there aren't any old games left to rerelease on modern platforms except for the Layton crossover (hope that will eventually come as well although I doubt anytime soon considering it involves also Level-5 - even more so as they're also the publisher of the original in Japan while Nintendo everywhere else)!

@Samalik I would like to announce we have no announcement to announce at this time, but stay tuned for an announcement.

Feels like a billion years since the last game. Hopefully we're getting pretty close to a new entry now that the entire series is available on modern systems.

So, basically they're giving this series the same treatment as Mega Man... 🤔

No OBJECTIONS here!

I’ll place a small stack of my chips forward and bet that they’re gonna announce an HD remaster of Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. I doubt it—I strongly doubt it. But we’ll see if my betting-man habit fails me yet again!

if mixed media opens up the possibilities of spin offs id be interested. AA always has to have these grand, high stakes stories for every entry, part of me worries about the potential story creep of always raising the bar. given how AA6 ended id still love to see where we go from here

Ace Attorney games seem relatively inexpensive to make and can find success without having to be multi-million sellers. It’s a series whose popularity transcends sales in my opinion. You might not have played the series, but you definitely know “Objection!” Definitely a series to keep around.

@boxyguy Personally as controversial as this sounds, I just want a reboot to the franchise at this point due to the direction the games went. Takumi and Yamazaki are both done with the franchise so I say just get a new young team that know the IP well and start fresh.

I’m not too surprised by this, and it’s kind of good to hear. I have a feeling they’re going to take another whack at furthering the anime. I don’t know how I feel about that.
@BenAV although it was released in Japan, the second AA Investigations is technically new to the US (unless you played it with the translation patch some years ago on the DS).

@DiggleDog Inexpensive? Probably so. But easy? I think that's likely to be the biggest speedbump on the road to Ace Attorney VI. It's must be darned tricky planning and writing multiple cases of compelling interactive detective fiction in a world whose lore only gets more and more convoluted with each fresh entry in the saga.

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Trilogy HD DELUXE coming our way boys!!

@geo-shifter I did play the fan translation years ago but I'm mainly just meaning the continuation of the main series anyway. Been over eight years since Spirit of Justice now and over seven years since The Great Ace Attorney 2 originally released in Japan. That's a pretty long time without any new games beyond ports/translation so hopefully they've spent that time coming up with some good ideas for the next game and the wait will be worth it.

Pretty much a nothing burger discussion piece, but at least we know Ace Attorney is far from dead. I have a lot to catch up on in this series anyway, so I can wait longer lol. I've only played the original trilogy so far, and that was within the last year.

@PipeGuy64Bit thats completely fair, even if all 6 games are still connected, 4-6 felt more like disconnected stories that didnt affect or reference each other, not to mention bloated mechanics since there we so many main characters to follow. but my theory is that theyre already kinda planning a soft reboot?

AA6 ending spoilers
with apollo choosing to stay in khura'in i think theyre intentionally trying to reduce the amount of lawyers per game, so both apollo and phoenix can exclusively have their own AA games again and not have complex stories that have to merge with each other. but i could also be entirely wrong since they hinted at thalassa returning lol

Ace Attorney will be back

in pog form as a tie in for a Netflix show

awesome! lets see what it will be

Color me skeptical. It’s free to say “we’re not done with the franchise”. That’s not a commitment to anything, let alone more games.

Calling it "content" doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Nor does the fact that they've basically sidelined Shu Takumi for the past six or seven years. Seems they're more than happy to profit off his work, but unwilling to let him make anything new.

Call me pessimistic but Capcom said the same thing about Mega Man and that franchise still remains dormant outside of Collections. To me this statement just means we might see more anime or merchandise and a game is a far from a guarantee.

Capcom really only cares about three franchises nowadays: Street Fighter, Monster Hunter and Resident Evil.

If it means any form like AA7, GAA 3 or Investigations 3. I’m here for it.

I’ll watch the special introduction video though regardless.

@FX29 because those 3 all bring the money.
