The return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has put India’s premier domestic 50-over tournament on the map. There hasn’t been this much excitement among fans for the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT). Kohli will turn out for Delhi for the first time in 15 years in the 50-over competition, while Rohit is back in action for Mumbai after last featuring in the tournament in 2018. Add names like Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Abhishek Sharma, and what you get is a domestic opening day that feels like an international event. However, there’s one problem for the fans. They can’t watch it all live!
Can fans watch Kohli-Rohit play live?
On Wednesday in the first round of the tournament, all 16 Elite matches begin together at 9:00 AM IST, creating a logistical nightmare for broadcasters. Kohli’s Delhi face Andhra at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after Karnataka’s government blocked public matches at the Chinnaswamy over security concerns.
Rohit’s Mumbai, meanwhile, start their campaign against Sikkim in Jaipur before taking on Uttarakhand in the next game at the same venue. However, this won’t be played behind closed doors, as the Sawai Mansingh Stadium has allowed 2000-3000 fans to get hold of the former Indian captain.
