Suryakumar Yadav becomes father, wife Devisha gives birth to baby girl
by Madhav Agarwal · Inside Sport IndiaSuryakumar Yadav might miss out on the MI vs RCB encounter on May 10, with his wife giving birth to a baby girl on Thursday.
Team India’s T20I skipper and Mumbai Indians (MI) batter, Suryakumar Yadav, and his wife, Devisha Shetty, were blessed with a baby girl on May 7.
Suryakumar Yadav becomes father
Due to this development, he looks all set to miss MI’s next match on May 10, against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), in Raipur, and hasn’t travelled with the team, as per various reports. But then, the good news for Suryakumar came while he himself was going through a rough patch in the IPL 2026.
MI batter likely to miss LSG encounter
In 10 matches so far, he has only scored 195 runs, at an average of 19, while the strike rate has been poor at 145. That is reflected in Mumbai’s overall performance as well, with MI lying in 9th place on the points table, with only three wins to their name. They still have a remote chance of qualifying for the playoffs, but not having Surya, and even Hardik Panyda, at least for the next match, problems could only mount for them.
There also arises the question of who would be the stand-in captain? Surya had led the side in Pandya’s absence in the last match vs LSG. The options remaining are Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Tilak Varma. According to another report, some foreign players have not travelled to the next venue as well, while it remains unclear what the reason is behind that or who they are.
This year, the stalwarts of MI have failed miserably, with Pandya’s own performance being pathetic, picking only four wickets and scoring only 146 runs. Bumrah, on the other hand, has picked up only three wickets. Tilak, barring a century early in the competition, has nothing much to show.
