The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Monday Okpebholo, has scored the highest votes in Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State, PREMIUM TIMES can confirm.

Mr Okpebholo has so far scored 291,667 votes while his closest challenger, Ituah Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has scored 247,274 votes.

The APC candidate also won in 11 of the state’s 18 local governments, according to results announced on Sunday at the INEC headquarters in Benin, the Edo State capital.

To emerge as the winner, a candidate must have the highest votes and at least 25 per cent of the votes in at least two-thirds (12) of the state’s 18 local government areas (LGAs). Mr Okpebholo has met this criteria, according to a PREMIUM TIMES review of official results declared by INEC.

INEC is expected to formally declare Mr Okpebholo the winner in the next few hours once the collation process is completed.
