UK: Russell Brand charged with two more sex offenses

Police in the United Kingdom said on Tuesday that British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been charged with two additional sex offenses — a new count of rape and another of sexual assault.
Brand is already under investigation on five charges made in April involving four women — two counts of rape, one of indecent assault, and two of sexual assault.
"These new charges are in relation to two further women and are in addition to the charges issued to Brand in April 2025," London's Metropolitan Police confirmed in a statement.
Brand, 50, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on January 20 in relation to the new charges.
A trial on the earlier charges is scheduled to begin at Southwark Crown Court, also in London, on June 16.
What has Russell Brand said?
Brand pleaded not guilty to the original charges in May and said in a social media video that he was "grateful" for the "opportunity" to defend himself.
"I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile, but what I never was was a rapist," he insisted. "I've never engaged in non-consensual activity."
Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi said that the women who have reported Brand's alleged behavior "continue to receive support from specially trained officers."
He urged "anyone affected by this case, or anyone with information, to come forward" and assist with what he said was an ongoing investigation.
