Westminster Bridge was the scene of a shocking incident this morning as hundreds of police officers descended upon the area, shutting it down after a man was stabbed amidst tourists.

The victim is now in a critical condition in hospital, while three individuals have been detained on suspicion of attempted murder, and another for affray.

According to MailOnline, authorities have stated that the stabbing appears to be "an isolated incident" and is not being treated as an act of terrorism. The Metropolitan Police were called at 10:43am on Sunday, November 24, following reports of a brawl on the bridge.

They said: "Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended and found a man suffering from a stab injury.

"He has been taken to hospital in a critical condition. Three people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and one person has been arrested on suspicion of affray. Two of them been taken to hospital for minor facial injuries. A road closure is in place. Enquiries continue."

Onlookers captured images showing multiple police vehicles and Transport for London 'Incident Response' units at the scene. Witnesses reported that "hundreds" of officers were present and that cordons had been established, reports the Mirror.

Social media users expressed their concern, with one posting on X: "Westminster Bridge closed in both directions. Hundreds of Police at the scene with the Bridge cordoned off. What's going on? ".

Westminster Bridge and the surrounding roads remain shut in both directions as police continue their investigations. Bus routes 11, 12, 148, 159, and 453 are currently being diverted.
