Armed gunman arrested at Trump Coachella rally

COACHELLA – (INT) – The Secret Service says Donald Trump “was not in any danger” before the arrest of an armed man who attended the former president’s weekend rally in Coachella.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department arrested Vern Miller when deputies discovered a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine in his black SUV.

Miller, 49, of Las Vegas was detained at a checkpoint at Avenue 52 and Celebration Drive Saturday evening. He was arrested on suspicion of illegally possessing a loaded firearm and a high-capacity magazine and taken to the Benoit Detention Center in Indio.

The Secret Service and the FBI extended their appreciation to the sheriff’s deputies who helped ensure the safety of those who attended Trump’s Saturday rally at the Calhoun Ranch.

Trump’s visit may be the only Inland Empire stop by the presidential candidates before the election.

Speakers at the Coachella rally included Congressman Ken Calvert, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco and other top Republican leaders.
